Overview

The Noetic Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group with members in Southern California and around the world, who have been inspired to study Homer, Parmenides, the pre-Socratics, Plato, the neo-Platonists, and other perennial philosophers and mystics, not for academic reasons, but for personal spiritual growth. The society was founded by Pierre Grimes, PhD in 1967, and was incorporated in 1978.

Synopsis Nice review and continuation of yesterday evening's (un-recorded) chat with Pierre at the Women's Club about the necessity for the philosophy of the Self. Much of the discussion focuses on the place for "Logos", and the special Platonic meaning of the terms, "Justice", and the post-midwife-talk experience (after one sees how a pathologos plays out in their family in a past scene, etc.). Relating Justice to Joriki (in Zen Buddhism) and other near-Eastern philosophy...

Synopsis Another fun Saturday morning with Pierre. We warmed up with a little politics, and a discussion of how to break people (especially Trump-ites, but also entire societies) out of their heavy “belief” states. Then we dive into two dream explorations with JulieH and Eldar. (I was exhausted, so again, just an audio and some snapshots today, no video.) JulieH's dream exploration starts at about 0:34:15 (where I deleted about 10 minutes of silence while Pierre and the group read over her...

Synopsis Granted, the assignment for today from last time had been a bit nebulous. But the main idea, anyway, had been to look at the first few pages of Book 5 in Proclus’ Commentary on Plato’s Parmenides , and try to understand the 4 (or 5) ideas Proclus gives there (of definition, demonstration, division, and synthesis / analysis). Pierre asks some introductory questions about this difficult piece of work, and it appears no one has a clear idea about it (or any specific questions...
